Life Church

Found this on Tony Morgan’s blog. Craig Groeschel wrote it and I thought it was worth passing on. Enjoy and have a great 2012!

What should leaders and/or organizations consider stop and start doing in 2012? Here are some thoughts from Craig Groeschel, Senior Pastor of LifeChurch.tv.

“If leaders could stop doing one thing in the next year, I’d encourage them to stop making excuses. It’s so common to list all of the reasons why our ministry or organization can’t do something. I’ve found that limitations are often the greatest source of innovation. Simply shifting our mindsets from a ‘we can’t because…’ to ‘we can because…’ can make all the difference in the world. The best leaders don’t let limitations limit or confine them. Instead of feeling defeated by obstacles, these leaders are inspired to create new paths.

“If leaders would start doing one thing in the next year, I’d hope to motivate them to think infinitely bigger. It’s so easy to ask, ‘What do we think we can do?’ If we are trying to do what we think we can do, our efforts don’t require any faith. And without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Never insult God with small plans and safe living. Dream big. Then dream even bigger.” –Craig Groeschel

Cambodia Missions Trip Video

Steven Kaylor and I (and Joshua) had the privilege of going to New Life Fellowship in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and minister at their youth conference and their weekend services. Youth leaders and pastors came from the village churches from around the country to attend the conference. It was truly an honor to be a part of what God is doing in Cambodia.

Crazy Summer!
It has been a busy summer!hotel coms
Life Church celebrated its 2nd anniversary, we moved to a new location, had a baptism Sunday, great kids camp, family fun day, summer festival, gospel concert, leaders retreat and managed to take a 4 day family vacation too!  We are now catching our breath and getting ready for the fall season.
Our new location has been working out very well.  Several new families have come and we have seen  repeat visitors too. Our location is located just above the subway platform which makes it very convenient for those people taking the train. We also found a room to use for Life Kids that is very inexpensive and spacious. God is so awesome to give us this new location!  Thank you to everyone who prayed with us!

Baptism

Mr. Oota, the cafe owner, was baptized last month.  It was a great moment to see the first fruits of what God is going to do in Osaka.  He was one of our first contacts in Osaka and also one of the first to receive Jesus.

2nd Anniversary
We decided to celebrate our anniversary with what else but FOOD!  We had a great potluck inside our very small meeting room. Many full tummies!

Kids Camp
We headed to the cool mountain countryside with 18 kids, 5 teachers and 2 toddlers for two days of games, swimming, a treasure hunt and great worship times.  7 of Joshua's friends from school came to the camp.

Family Fun Day/Summer Festival
We used our first month in our new location as a kick off month and did several events to encourage members to invite their friends.  We all dressed in traditional Japanese summer clothes and had fun playing games and hanging out.

Gospel Concert
We had several gospel singers come to church and join in our worship service.  I recently met a mother and baby at our women's gospel group.  We invited her to the gospel Sunday and she came with her husband.

Cultural Notes
Two funny instances.  It has been a long time since I have seen a alcohol vending machine but we were in a small coastal town and saw many of them lining the main road ready for ANYONE to insert their coins.  Crazy!
This picture of Sophia was taken at a nearby park that we just discovered.  At the park closest to our house that we frequent the most, people are used to us and don't give Sophia any special attention.  At thisnew park these girls could not get enough of Sophia.  They followed her around the whole park and back again doing her bidding:)

From Where We Stand

Joshua
I had a fun summer!  We went on vacation to the beach.  My dad gave me a fishing trip for my birthday.  I caught 10 fish.  The water was so clear that when I swam out really far I could still see the bottom of the ocean.  I had so much fun.
Last week I was in a basketball tournament.  The first game we won but the 2nd game we lost.  It was so close.  I was so disappointed.

This summer was one of the best summers EVER!!! I had so much fun! At the beginning of summer my dad and I went to Hope Church's youth camp in Nagano. I had a blast! We had great worship and lots of crazy games! We all broke up into 4 teams. My team name was team Garlic! The reason why we chose that name is because we were picking our team name at lunch, and everybody loved the garlic bread!! So anyway, the games were so fun! And in the end my team got the most points and won!!! That camp was one of the best camps I've ever been to!!!!
